Manny Manuel

Manny Manuel was born December 1, 1972, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. As a child, he participated in several talent shows and other musical activities. During this time, he joined the music group TEMPOMERENGUERO where he came a vocalist and choreographer former engueduo MAYRA Y CELINÉS. He then joined LOS SABROSOS DELMERENGUE where they had debut hit “FIERA CALLADA”. After the success of the single, they released SINFRONTERAS which included a cover song of ROCIO DURCAL’S “TE AMO”.

They then released their second album, HACIENDO HISTORIA, which included hit songs “COLEGIALA” and “FRENTE A FRENTE”. In June 1994, it was announced that Manuel would be leaving LOS SABROSOS to start a solo career. His first album, REY DECORAZONES, was released later that year. The album gained much success as it was certified platinum shortly after its release. In November of 1995, Manuel performed at Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center where he sold out six shows. After the release of this second album, AUTÉNTICO, he performed at Guaynabo Performing Arts Center and Roberto Clemente Coliseum.

He then collaborated with several artists on songs and albums such as “PAYASO” with Raphy Leavitt and recorded the song “DAME LA MANO Y VEN”, the Spanish version of The Beatles hit song “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” from the tropical tribute to The Beatles. In 1998, he released the album ESMI TIEMPO which included hit songs “COMO DUELE” and “MARGARITA”. It is at this time that he went on tour in Spain and the album was certified gold. Manuel released the album LLENODE VIDA in 1999 where he performed at Roberto Clemente Coliseum. This performance was recorded and later released on CD.

During this time, he was also nominated for a Grammy® Award for best Merengue Performance. Following this success, Manuel’s single, “SE ME SUBE”, from his self-titled album, placed in the Top 20 and the album landed in the Top 2 on the tropical albums chart. In 2003, he released SERENATA which was composed of traditional romantic covered songs and sold over 100,000 copies. He was nominated for a Latin Gammy® for this album. His 2007 album, TENGO TANTO, was released with fusions of merengue with other caribbean rhythms like vallenato. In August 2014, Manny Manuel celebrated 20 years as a singer with a concert at El Coliseobellas Artes in Puerto Rico.
