Free Museum Days: Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Come discover The Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s exhibition “Paths to Independence: 1765-1787”, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by exhibiting over 140 items illustrating the variety of actors and responses to the tumultuous events of the American Revolution.

American Independence was not a single event that occurred on July 4, 1776, but a process that lasted more than two decades. It began with colonial resistance to the Stamp Act in 1765 and lasted at least until the drafting of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.

July 4 is the middle of the story; it cannot be understood without the beginning and the end.
